A CASED .577 PINFIRE DOUBLE-RIFLE WITH SLIDE-FORWARDS BARRELS, serial no. 2527,
circa 1860, with probably shortened 22in. expertly rebrowned damascus side-by side barrels, flat top-rib with white metal fore-sight blade, shallow standing notch rear-sight with twin additional folding leaves, the rib end with scroll engraving and signed 'A. LANCASTER 27 SOUTH AUDLEY ST, GROSVENOR SQRE. LONDON' (all refreshed), engraved band at breech, carved and scroll engraved elongated top-tang, border and scroll engraved back-action locks signed 'A. LANCASTER' (refreshed), each with a central depiction of a hunting dog, moulded and scroll engraved hammers, walnut butt-stock chequered at the wrist, blued heel-plate with scroll engraved top-spur, the lower tang with raised chequered pistol-grip spur, engraved and blued trigger-guard bow, checker-board engraved iron fore-end with underslung flush-fitting hinged opening lever with finger-ring and eyelets for sling, the whole expertly restored with strong traces of renewed but faded colour except where noted and complete with an oak full length storaged case adapted for this rifle and lined in blue baize, lids to all accessory compartments and reproduction parchment trade-label
